The KPMG Story

William Barclay Peat joined an accounting business in London in 1870, and he eventually took it over as William Barclay Peat & Co. in 1891. Thomson McLintock, an accounting business, established a location in Glasgow in 1877. In the meanwhile, Piet Klijnveld established his accounting practice in Amsterdam in 1917. Klynveld Kraayenhof & Co. was created later on following his merger with Kraayenhof. Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company was created in 1925 by the merger of William Barclay Peat & Co. and Marwick Mitchell & Co., a business formed in New York by James Marwick and Roger Mitchell (later known simply as Peat Marwick).
